Conservative Dentistry is the branch of dentistry which is concerned with the preservation of teeth in the mouth. It includes various kinds of direct and indirect restorations (fillings) of individual teeth in the mouth. It also deals with diagnosis and treatment of defects of teeth that do not require full coverage restorations for correction, resulting in a restorations offering proper tooth form, function and esthetics, enhancing the general health and welfare of the patient.
The department offers different types of latest fillings for restoration of cavities and has the required equipments for the same which includes -
Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery is a surgical super-specialty, a branch of dentistry,
which involves the diagnosis, surgery and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries and defects involving both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region.
Treatments may be performed on the craniomaxillofacial complex, mouth, jaws, neck, face, skull, and include:-
Dentoalveolar surgery (surgery to remove impacted teeth Difficult tooth
extractions Extractions on medically compromised patients Bone grafting or
preprosthetic surgery to provide better anatomy for the placement of implants,
dentures, or other dental prostheses).
Maxillofacial surgery (Complex surgeries involving TMJ, cleft lip/palate, oral cysts, tumours, maxillofacial fractures) attached to Terna Sahyadri Hospital with separate male and female wards.
Prosthodontics as such is a branch of Dentistry, which deals with the art, and science of
replacing the lost or missing teeth and their surrounding structures by means of artificial substitutes so as to restore the form and function of affected structures.
The treatment facilities provided include complete dentures, removable & fixed partial dentures, maxillofacial prosthesis including obturators, various splints to stabilize fracture of jaw bones along with cosmetic dentistry.
Paedodontics includes preventive and therapeutic orodental health care programs for children. Preventive programs include educating parent and child on maintenance of proper oral hygiene, diet counseling, fluoride prophylaxis and provision of space maintainers.
Various habit breaking and myofunctional appliances are also given during the active growth phase of the child. Important therapeutic measures provided include high quality restorative and cosmetic procedures, orthodontic treatment, and oral surgical procedures including extractions, removal of cysts and tumors and management of trauma. Special care is exercised towards eliminating anxiety and fear so that children develop a positive and friendly attitude towards dentistry.
Periodontology as rightly said is the hub around which dentistry revolves since it caters to the supporting structures of the tooth. To maintain the supporting structures in a healthy condition different treatment procedures like scaling, root planning, polishing are carried out routinely.

Department Of Oral Medicine,Diagnosis And Radiology
The specialty of Oral Medicine and Radiology deals with the history taking, clinical examination, diagnosis, investigations, radiographic examination and medical management of lesions related to the oral & paraoral areas.
Various radiological methods for diagnosing soft and hard tissue lesions in the oral &
maxillofacial region is also carried out in this department.

The specialty of Oral Pathology and Microbiology deals with basic knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology, Histology, Embryology, Pathology and Microbiology and structures and tissues related to the paraoral and oral areas.
The department deals with the laboratory diagnosis and histopathological examination of various oral and dental lesions. It also teaches the students the fine nuances of wax carvings of natural teeth and analysis of histopathology slides of oral tissues. Other facilities provided
include biopsy and special staining for oral cancer screening.
The Department of Public Health Dentistry is dedicated to training undergraduate students in public health dentistry to work within interdisciplinary teams to conduct investigations on the risk factors for oral disease, their relation to systemic disease, and on the use of oral epidemiological methods to study health outcomes of dental services and oral health policy.
Under the above guidelines, the main motto of the department of Public
Health Dentistry is "Prevention is better than cure". This is spread to the masses by means of well-organized school and Community Dental Health education programmes.
Orthodontics is the oldest specialty of dentistry. It is the branch of dentistry that
specializes in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. The practice of orthodontics requires professional skill in the design and use of corrective appliances (braces) to bring teeth, lips and jaws into proper alignment and achieve facial balance.
The undergraduate programme in Orthodontics is designed to enable the qualifying dental surgeon to diagnose, analyze and treat common orthodontic problems by preventive, interceptive and corrective orthodontic procedures.
